A recipient of the distinguished Eagle Scout designation, he also believes that honesty, integrity, and professionalism are important keys to success.
After graduating magna cum laude from Ithaca College with a B.S. degree in Finance, John returned to Southampton and entered a family business in the construction industry; however, John was not passionate about construction and his career interests soon transitioned to real estate finance. Over the next 25 years, John originated scores of loan transactions – large and small, local and national. This work included everything from single-family homes to office buildings, shopping complexes, and hotels. For the past several years, John has been effectively applying his acquired knowledge in construction and real estate finance to the sale of Hamptons residential and commercial real estate. He is now ranked in the highest one percent of agents in the nation by Real Trends and the Wall Street Journal.
John has an unyielding love for the Hamptons way of life that is readily apparent. He proudly represents the tenth generation of his family on eastern Long Island and is a direct descendant of Captain Barnabas Wines, who was an original settler of Southold in the 1640s. His great grandfather was instrumental in the formation of Southampton Village during the 1890s, while his father later served as Chairman of the Southampton Town Planning Board, the Mayor of Southampton Village, and the first-ever Chairman of the Peconic Land Trust.
Over the years, John raised three children in Southampton. His oldest son is a mortgage banker in Charlotte, NC. His daughter, who resides in northern Virginia with her husband and two children, is a graduate of Syracuse University College of Law. Johns youngest son, a Boston College MBA graduate, lives in Southampton with his wife and is affiliated with Saunders as an associate broker. In addition to being a proud father and grandfather, John is the owner of two West Highland White Terriers and a corporate member of Bullhead Yacht Club.
